Our last stop included a visit to the local Millennium Promise office in Tabora. Here we talked about our trip with the local leaders of the project including our key takeaways. Since the Millennium Promise project started the cluster of villages that make up Mbola have had some major accomplishments. Harvests have more the doubled, school enrollment is up dramatically, and a new health clinic is soon to be completed. These are all major steps in the pursuit to end extreme poverty in the village. I assured the leadership of my continued support of their work and the village of Mbola and promised to keep in touch throughout the year so that we can showcase all of their great work through our website, mobile community, and while on tour. This is now my second time visiting Mbola and so in a way it feels like we’ve ‘adopted’ it as our own. I can’t wait to visit again next year and see the dramatic progress once again.

Next Steps…

Launching the Show Me Bed Net Campaign

Since the launch of the Millennium Promise program families within the Mbola village cluster have been given bed nets to sleep under at night. Malaria is primarily spread through mosquitoes and one message that the health officers and others continuously told us is that for those villagers who have been given a bed net to sleep under at night, malaria has been dramatically reduced. However, even more bed nets are needed so that people living on the outskirts of the villages can receive one. It is a simple and practical way to make a major difference (each one costs less than $5) and that is why from now until the end of the year we will be launching a brand new Show Me bed net campaign. Each of the donations given to the campaign will help to purchase a bed net for a villager in Mbola who does not have one. It doesn’t take much yet can have a huge impact. Our goal is to raise $25,000 so that we can purchase 5,000 new bed nets for the village; I hope you’ll join me.

(we need more of these)
